On July 19, 2024, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) issued an advisory opinion on the legal consequences of Israel's policies and practices in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. In response to questions raised by the United Nations General Assembly in its Resolution 77/247 (2022), the ICJ concluded that international human rights law applies to this territory and must be respected by Israel. The opinion highlights systemic violations of international human rights law committed by Israel, particularly those related to racial segregation measures, for which legal remedies may be sought to obtain their cessation and reparations for the harm caused. Explanations by Catherine Maia and Ghislain Poissonnier, Vice-President of JURDI.
