On March 24, 2026, the daily newspaper L'Humanité published a joint op-ed signed by 16 legal experts, most of whom are law researchers or professors and members of the JURDI Bureau or Scientific Council. They denounced the aggression against Iran by the US and Israel on February 28, 2026, and its right to self-defense, as well as the aggression against Lebanon by Israel. They referred to the definition of this crime, which was committed in violation of the Charter of the United Nations.
They call for respect for fundamental principles of international law that have been violated, including the prohibition of the threat and use of force, as well as the prohibition of acquiring territory by force. They also call for respect for the principles of international humanitarian law, which applies in armed conflict regardless of the legality of such use of force. They further remind third-party states of their legal obligations in this regard. Finally, they express their concern about the challenge to the legal order established in 1945 by force.
