This global initiative was launched by the ICRC on September 24, 2024, jointly with France, alongside South Africa, Brazil, China, Jordan and Kazakhstan, with the aim of "preserving humanity in war", "standing together" to "revive the political commitment of states to IHL", so that "states reinvest in their role as guardians of these rules" and so that "they are respected in armed conflicts".
