JURDI seizes the Human Rights Council and sends an open letter to the UN Secretary General to plead for the protection of the independence of the Special Procedures

On February 18th of 2026, the Association of Lawyers for the Respect of International Law (JURDI) has submitted simultaneously a formal communication to the United Nations Human Rights Council and an open letter to the United Nations Secretary General following the official statements made on 11 February 2026 by the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the French Republic, who publicly called for the resignation of Ms. Francesca Albanese, Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967.
JURDI reminds the requirement to preserve the independence and calls for the respect of the existing functional and institutional protection of international mechanisms.
